Maas's new novel sells 1.7 million copies on launch day
Bloomsbury's count covers English print and ebook preorders and opening-day sales across the US, Canada, UK and Australia, but excludes audio

Sarah J. Maas's A COURT OF SPLINTERED HARMONY sold approximately 1.7 million copies on its release date, Tuesday, October 27, Bloomsbury reported to Variety, according to Publishers Marketplace. The figure combines preorders and opening-day sales of English-language print and ebook editions across the U.S., Canada, UK and Australia.
The count does not include digital audio units, which were published separately by Recorded Books. Publishers Marketplace reported that the data likely originated with Bloomsbury itself.
Circana Bookscan, the independent tracker of print sales, will not publish opening-week print sales figures until late next week, according to the outlet.
Big number, bigger asterisk. That 1.7 million figure comes from the publisher, not an independent tracker, and it's stacking preorders on top of opening-day sales across four countries while quietly leaving out audio entirely. None of that makes it fake, but it does make it a Bloomsbury number until Circana Bookscan publishes its own print data late next week. Watch for that second number before you treat this as the whole picture.
