Rights holders for Elvis Presley, led by ABG EPE IP LLC alongside trusts, music publishers and individual rights holders, sued Anthropic on 23 October in the Northern District of California, according to the outlet. The complaint alleges Anthropic used lyrics from 274 songs, including "Can't Help Falling in Love," "All Shook Up," "Don't Be Cruel" and "Return to Sender," without a licence to train Claude.

The filing came days after a 21 October hearing in a separate case brought by Universal Music Group, Concord and ABKCO Music, in which US District Judge Eumi Lee did not rule on whether Anthropic's use of song lyrics to train Claude qualifies as fair use, the outlet reported. Anthropic said it disagrees with the claims and intends to defend the case fully.

Coral’s read

This one matters because it's not a label or a publisher at the table this time — it's a single artist's estate, naming names like "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Return to Sender." If you write lyrics, compositions, or anything a model could swallow whole, this case is the one to watch for how courts treat individual catalogues versus the big publisher suits already in motion. Nothing's decided yet — Judge Lee hadn't ruled on the fair-use question as of 21 October, and these are requested damages, not awarded ones. Mark it watch-and-wait, but keep watching.
