Kindle Unlimited renamed Kindle+ as audiobook royalties open up
Amazon will pay KDP Select authors through the Global Fund for audiobook listening as well as ebook reading, starting with US subscribers

Amazon has begun rebranding Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+ on ebook product pages, according to Written Word Media, which based its observations on Amazon's product pages as of October 22, 2026. ZDNET, Good e-Reader, Digital Trends, The Verge, NewsBytes and LatestLY all reported the rename and said it comes alongside an expanded audiobook lineup including AI-narrated titles.
According to Written Word Media, Amazon confirmed that audiobook listening through Kindle+ will be compensated via the KDP Select Global Fund using a page-based system similar to ebook reading, with Amazon adding further funds to the pool to support audiobook listening. At launch, audiobook listening through Kindle+ is available only to subscribers in the United States, though Amazon said additional marketplaces will follow without giving a timeline.
Written Word Media reported that audiobooks created via KDP's Virtual Voice are automatically included in Kindle+ when the associated ebook is enrolled in KDP Select, while authors can now also enroll eligible ACX audiobooks through their KDP Bookshelf, provided those titles meet Amazon's eligibility requirements. ACX titles produced through Royalty Share or Royalty Share Plus are not eligible at launch. ZDNET reported subscription pricing cited as 2, while NewsBytes reported a $12 per month figure for the service — a conflict the two outlets did not resolve between them.
This is the biggest shake-up to the Global Fund since it started paying by the page, and Amazon buried the mechanics in a rebrand announcement. The headline change is a new name. The real change is that your audiobook can now earn page-read money alongside your ebook — but only if you enroll it, and only if a reader doesn't double-dip the same pages across formats. Read the enrollment rules before you touch anything, because this is one of those weeks where the fine print is the whole story.
Here's what actually changes for you this week, stripped of the branding noise: your audiobook can now earn Global Fund money the same way your ebook does, by the page. If you've got a Virtual Voice audiobook tied to an ebook already in KDP Select, you don't have to do anything — Amazon enrolls it automatically. If your ebook isn't enrolled yet, enrolling it pulls the audiobook in too.
If you went the ACX route instead, you now have a door that wasn't open before: eligible ACX titles can be enrolled in KDP Select through your Bookshelf. Note the word eligible — Amazon has requirements, and Royalty Share and Royalty Share Plus titles are locked out at launch. If that's your setup, you're not getting this royalty stream yet, full stop.
The part that should make you pause before you get excited: Amazon has not announced specific per-format payment rates and hasn't committed to keeping per-page rates unchanged once audiobooks are added to the mix. There's also a built-in catch on crossover readers — if someone listens to three chapters and later reads those same chapters as text, you get paid once, not twice. Immersive Reading pays the higher of the two rates when someone's doing both at once, which is the one clearly author-friendly detail in the announcement so far.
My advice: enroll what's eligible, because there's no downside to collecting a royalty stream that didn't exist before. But don't restructure your audiobook strategy around numbers Amazon hasn't published yet. And watch your KDP Bookshelf and payment reports closely over the next month or two — that's where the real per-page rate will show up, not in a press release. The rename is cosmetic. The payment mechanics are the story, and they're still being written.
