Four of Canada's biggest news publishers just told a court that Anthropic built Claude on their journalism without ever asking permission or paying for it. The claim doesn't stop at "you copied our stuff" — it says Anthropic broke its own terms of service and got around the technical blocks the publishers put up to stop scraping in the first place. That's a sharper argument than the usual copyright complaint, and it's worth watching closely, because the same publishers already have an unresolved 2024 case against OpenAI sitting on the docket.
