When the trade is shocked but still shows up in support, that tells you something about trust — bookshops aren't hedging here, they're backing their author and her publisher through a change nobody saw coming. That's worth noting, because goodwill like that isn't owed, it's earned. Still, "shock" is the word on record, and shock in the trade press is never nothing.
