This one should make every byline writer a little paranoid in a useful way. Someone used Linda Geddes's name and a lookalike email to pitch real editors at Nature, Science, Nature Medicine and Nature Health, and a related impersonator actually got paid about $1,000 by Science for an article under a different writer's name. The New York Post ran a piece under Geddes's name built from quotes lifted off her old work before pulling it and calling in the authorities. If it can happen to a published author with decades of bylines behind her, it can happen to you.
