Amazon caps KDP authors at two new titles a week
The limit started Monday, counts separately for ebook, paperback and hardcover, and the standing invitation to request an exception has gone.

If you publish fast, plan your quarter again this week. Two new titles per format means a full ebook-plus-paperback-plus-hardcover release still only costs you one of your two weekly slots — but a rapid-release run of four novellas in a month no longer fits. The counter resets Sunday at midnight UTC, so a Saturday upload and a Monday upload land in different weeks. Nothing you have already published is touched.
Amazon has cut the number of new titles a KDP account can create to two per format per week, effective Monday 21 September.
In its announcement on the KDP Community forum, Amazon said it was "updating the title creation limits on KDP to help maintain a positive publishing experience for all authors." The weekly allowance resets every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC, and unused slots do not roll over.
The cap counts each format on its own — ebook, paperback and hardcover each get two. An author releasing a single book in all three formats therefore uses one slot in each, leaving room for a second full release in the same week.
Amazon confirmed the limit applies only to creating new titles: "Your existing or published titles are not affected."
This is not the first ceiling Amazon has put on title creation — it introduced a daily cap in 2023 after a wave of AI-generated listings — but it is the tightest yet. Independent write-ups this week also report that the help-page language inviting authors who "expect to regularly create a large number of titles" to contact Amazon about an exception has been removed, closing the route that high-volume publishers previously used.
Trade coverage remains thin two days on; the announcement itself is currently the only first-party account.
Why it matters to you: Rapid release is a core romance strategy, and this puts a hard ceiling on it: roughly two complete books a week, about a hundred a year. The bigger signal is the missing escape hatch — Amazon has removed the line inviting high-volume publishers to ask for an exception, so the cap now reads as a wall rather than a default.
