Amazon KDP 2026 rules require AI disclosure now

I keep hearing the same fear from you: "If I tell Amazon my book has AI content, will they not bury it?" Let us settle that, because the fear is bigger than the fact.

KDP's AI disclosure is a required checkbox in the publishing flow now, not an optional note. The exact wording you will see: "This title contains AI-generated content. This includes text (e.g., chapters, sections), images (e.g., illustrations, diagrams, cover art), or translations that were produced using AI tools."

What actually needs the checkbox:

• AI-generated text — chapters or sections written by a tool, not edited human prose
• AI-generated images — a Midjourney or DALL-E cover, AI interior art
• AI translations — a full-book machine translation with no human translator review

What does not need it: Grammarly or ProWritingAid passes, brainstorming and outlining with AI, AI editing suggestions on your own writing, or AI-assisted marketing copy that never touches the book itself. Ordinary writing-assistance tools are still just tools.

Here is your actual answer to the fear: disclosure itself carries no ranking penalty, no ad restriction, no visibility hit. None. What gets you in trouble is being caught not disclosing — Amazon's enforcement escalated hard this year, especially in nonfiction categories, running from an automated flag through a warning email, to removal, to account review, and in repeat cases, suspension.

One more thing worth knowing: you can go back and disclose retroactively on an older title, and Amazon treats a voluntary correction far better than something they catch themselves. If you have got an older book with AI-assisted content that predates this rule, go fix it this week rather than wait to be flagged.

My take: tick the box. It costs you nothing and the alternative — getting caught — costs you the book. This is one of the easiest right answers in the entire AI mess.
